Allergen management, effective management of food industry audits, horizon scanning tools and robust hazard analysis critical control points (HACCP) systems will all be addressed in a free Food Manufacture webinar held on 6 October.

The annual Food Safety Briefing, which is this year entitled Food Safety: Weak Links in The Chain, will take place from 3pm - 4.30pm UK time and is aimed at food safety and quality assurance managers, operations managers, production managers and senior management. Register to listen here.

Food safety systems at factory level have been tested like never before as food and drink manufacturers have had to navigate their way through the perfect storm of Brexit and COVID-19.

The pandemic’s impact may have lessened. But as Christmas demand builds, the Brexit effect causes supply chain disruption and the skills shortage remains a constant challenge, it’s vital that production managers and technical staff stay alert to their vulnerabilities.

HACCP, allergen management

Alec Kyriakides, former head of quality, safety and supplier performance at Sainsbury's for 28 years, will address HACCP, while Barbara Hirst, food safety and quality consultant at Reading Scientific Services Limited (RSSL), will tackle allergen management.

Diane Barlow, chief information officer at the Food Standards Agency (FSA) will explain the current tools available to support suppliers' horizon scanning efforts. "I proactively seek opportunities to transform complex or painful processes and issues through digitalisation and am particularly proud of the way I have been able to lead and deliver services and change initiatives at the FSA," said Barlow.

A speaker from the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) will speak about handling audits. GFSI is a private organization established and managed by international trade association the Consumer Goods Forum and maintains a scheme to benchmark food safety standards for manufacturers as well as farm assurance standards.

Registrants will be able to submit their questions to the panellists and have them answered in a live question and answer session directly after the presentations.

The webinar is sponsored by RSSL and supported by Munters and Hillbrush.
