Supermarket chain Tesco has recalled a stuffing mix due to the possible presence of moths.

As a result, customers that previously purchased a pack of the Tesco Finest Apple & Cranberry Stuffing Mix have been instructed to return the product to any Tesco store for a full refund, regardless of whether they kept the receipt.

The stuffing mix is sold in a 130g pack and has a best before date of September 2024.

The recall was first issued on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website on 13 December 2023 and included a link to the recall notice that has since been displayed in Tesco stores throughout the UK and Ireland.

"We are recalling a single batch of Tesco Finest Apple & Cranberry Stuffing Mix due to the possible presence of moths which makes the product unfit for human consumption," the notice read.

Tesco encourages customers to get in touch

Tesco has apologised for the error and encouraged customers with any furthers questions about the recall to get in touch via its customer services line. The FSA also advised that any customer who purchased the product should not eat it and instead contact the supermarket for a refund

According to the BBC, the moths initially got into the stuffing through one of the raw ingredients during the production process. The batch that was found to be contaminated is no longer available for sale, but separate batches of the stuffing mix remain in circulation.

The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a Food Alert for Action is issued, which provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.
