This year’s Food Safety Briefing theme is science and data – with four special guest experts from Mars Global Food Safety Center, the Food Standards Agency, Unibloc, and Imprint Analytics joining us to share their knowledge.

In a series of expert presentations, 2023’s Food Safety Briefing will take an expansive dive into technology and data - from its uses within digital transparency, to its deployment in food fraud and sustainability, to what evidence we have to inform good factory hygiene.

Free to watch on 4 October or on-demand at your leisure (register here), the briefing will kick-off with the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) Julie Pierce, director of information and science.

Focusing in on the Food Data Transparency Partnership (FDTP), Pierce will be highlighting the importance of the project, how it will manifest, and the ways in which organisations can prepare between now and its roll-out.

The FDTP is a partnership between government, industry and other experts to improve the availability, quality and comparability of data in the food supply chain. The hope is that this will lead to more sustainable and healthier food and drink in the future. Several working groups have been set up to consider aspects such as emissions, health, data collection and sharing, and operational feasibility.

Boris Bolshchikov, head of the Mars Global Food Safety Center also joins the line-up as he discusses the centre’s collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) and its joined-up efforts to address the food safety and security challenges through science and technology.

Mars believes knowledge is central to overcoming these barriers – and that’s why its team works hard with partners to drive awareness, exchange knowledge and insights, and foster collaboration across the global food supply chain. Through collaboration, such as its partnership with the WFP, it has seen the lasting difference that everyone can make to strengthen the global food supply chain.

While Unibloc’s Ross Came, regional sales manager for UK & Ireland will be asking the question: ‘How safe are your pumps and cleaning protocols?’

As we have seen in the past, poor sanitation practices can lead to the proliferation of potentially life-threatening bacteria, including Listeria.

Food processing companies have the responsibility to employ and adhere to thorough sanitation procedures for any equipment that comes in contact with the food product, including pumps.

Came will take attendees through the options for pumps that can accommodate clean-in-place (CIP) or clean-out-of-place (COP) procedures to enhance food safety. In his presentation, he will explain how the proper tools and processes can help protect consumers to prevent devastating consequences. He will also distinguish the key differences between CIP and COP pumps as it relates to food safety.

The final talk will come from Imprint Analytics’ CEO, David Psomiadis - an expert in food authenticity, food fraud prevention, and product integrity.

Learning objectives:

  • Update your know-how on the technology and initiatives helping to keep food safe and transparent
  • Find out how to implement food safety protocols to remain compliant with industry regulations
  • Discover the latest scientific developments and best practices to build a robust and safe food system

Amidst a rising tide of food fraud, the quest for authenticity and transparency becomes more vital than ever. While food companies struggle to navigate between new regulations on sustainability, ESG and responsible sourcing, consumers raise their demands and expectations.

In this part of the briefing, Psomiadis will delve into the various dimensions of food fraud risks, the significance of food authenticity in the era of responsible sourcing and increasing demand for corporate responsibility evidence, as well as the solutions available in the field of evidence-based analytical testing for the verification of relevant claims along the supply chain.

The presentations will be followed by a live roundtable session with the panel, diving further into their respective topics, as they take questions from the audience.

This webinar is sponsored by headliner Unibloc, alongside three other supporters: Munters, QAD Redzone and Thermo Fisher.
